NSW, WA, Vincent and Vinyl

Our album tour continues with launches in NSW and WA in May, plus a special after-hours performance at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne in June.

NSW

Tickets are selling fast to the Saturday show at Leadbelly, Sydney on the 20th May. Get in quick or you just might miss out. Should that happen, we'd love to see you at the Sunday matinee show.

Supports for both performances are the wonderful Peter Milton Walsh & Amanda Brown (from The Apartments). Looking forward to playing Lizotte’s Newcastle again too on Friday, 19th May. Great room for casting spells – which is exactly what J.P. Shilo will be doing in a special solo set before The Susans take the stage.

Fri 19 May – Lizotte’s, Lambton Newcastle NSW  TICKETS
Sat 20 May – Leadbelly, Newtown Sydney  TICKETS
Sun 21 May - Leadbelly, Newtown Sydney  TICKETS

WA

We’re going back to where it all began - some 28 years ago!

Great to be playing Perth again in May, especially now The Holy Rollers will be reforming to support us at Mojo's May 26th and Badlands May 27th. Long time fans of Perth music will fondly remember Greg Dear’s indie legends and their song Above The Law, amongst others. Susans’ fans get this exclusive opportunity to see The Rollers in their first performances since they played a few songs at Perth’s SOTA festival in 2014.

Sat 27 May – Badlands Bar, Perth  TICKETS

We Have Lift-Off

We're kicking off our national tour this weekend with a show at the Republic Bar, Hobart, Saturday 1st April with special guest, J.P. Shilo, playing a solo set of underwater sounds before us. Then we’ll be back in Melbourne next weekend to play the Corner Hotel before heading off around the country in the weeks and months to come. Hope to see you passing through.

MELBOURNE ALBUM LAUNCH

Saturday April 8, Corner Hotel, Richmond

We’re launching  our new album, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SEE at the Corner Hotel on Saturday 8th April with special guests The Spoils play The Velvet Underground & Nico and Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats. Please join us for a night of moody romance and dreamy soundscapes as we play selections from the new record as well as the best of our back catalogue. Get there early to secure a table and enjoy the show cabaret-style. There’s good food and beverages available at The Corner’s rooftop bar beforehand or take your pick of Swan Street’s many culinary temptations. Call the sitter, book an uber and make, what promises to be, a great night of it.

WELCOME BACK, 'EVIL'

Rob Snarski and 'Evil' Graham Lee back in the days of The Bottomless Schooners of Old circa '88-89. Now some decades later Graham rejoins The Blackeyed Susans for our new album CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SEE - and he’s one of the reasons it sounds so good. Welcome back, ‘Evil’.

On The Road Again

It’s been a busy time in the land of Susan: First a new single, then a new album and now our first national tour since 2009 is about to get underway! We have much news to share with you…

Close Your Eyes and See

The new album has been receiving glowing reviews around the country. 4**** and counting ... sonically, it’s the most beautiful work we've produced yet with sweeping pedal steel and seductive rhythms combining with our honey-voiced singer and song-writing smarts ... bruised optimism, splinters of resignation ... the world is far too beautiful, far too cruel to make sense of, we do our best to float through it, relatively unscathed. This is one for the dreamers and the lovers.

CDs, digital downloads and pre-orders for vinyl available now:

Album Launches

We’re touring the country over the next few months to launch the new album, playing selections from the new record as well as the best of our back catalogue. To get ready well, naturally, we’ve been rehearsing and the new songs are sounding grand. Check out this video of us playing Not Quite The Same at Bakehouse Studios recently.

Saturday 8th April – Corner Hotel Richmond, Melbourne

With special guests The Spoils play The Velvet Underground & Nico and Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats.

What a golden bill we have for you - majestic in fact.

Everyone's favourite album of all time - The Velvet Underground & Nico - re-interpreted in full by The Spoils, plus the tallest man on the planet to ever swing a guitar - Skyscraper Stan, and his his band The Commission Flats. Both join us for a luscious night of song. You gotta come along, there's no excuses. We've even made it more comfortable for y'all with tables and chairs in a cabaret style for those with weary limbs. First in best dressed, grab a table, pour a drink and leave the rest to us.

But before that…

Saturday 1st April – Republic Bar, Hobart

We’re starting our tour in Hobart! It’s been too long since we played in Taz – scene of the infamous hire car incident many years ago. We’d love to see you at the Republic Bar on Saturday 1st April. Get there early as J.P. Shilo will be opening the evening with a special solo set of underwater sounds and songs.

Plus lots more dates to come here.

Love Susie X

The Corner Hotel, April 8

The Spoils play The Velvet Underground & Nico added to the bill for our Corner Hotel launch on April 8th!

velvets.jpg

50 years since its release, The Velvet Underground's debut album remains one of the greatest, and most influential, of all time. Truth be known, we Susans have spent a fair bit of time with the album ourselves (though somewhat controversially The Velvet's third is probably our favourite).

The Spoils celebrated tribute to the album sold out last time it was staged in Melbourne, with the many subsequent rave reviews adding salt to the wounds of those who missed out. We're chuffed this exclusive support slot will give Susans' fans a chance to see the show.

The Spoils play The Velvet Underground & Nico join Skyscraper Stan & The Commission Flats to complete a killer line-up for our Corner Hotel show.

Close Your Eyes and See

The Album

So…it is with much pleasure and just a little pride that we present to you our new album, Close Your Eyes and See, released March 3rd and available for pre-order from today as a digital download or deluxe double-gatefold digipack CD from our Bandcamp shop.

Those of you keeping count will have noticed it’s been over a decade since we released an album of new material. We hope it's been worth the wait and that you enjoy the dreamlike torch songs, bruised ballads and otherworldly rockers we’ve spent the last few years creating.

Producer Dan Luscombe has done an ace job creating atmospheric soundscapes out of long, reverby trails of pedal steel, tremolo guitar, violin and keyboards. The results, we think, are lush, beautiful and mysterious.

Close Your Eyes and See is our response to the often wonderful and sometimes woeful world we live in - an appeal to keep your dreams alive, even when it feels as if you’re living in a nightmare. If the outside world poses difficult questions, well the answers may just lie within.

But don’t take our word for it. Close your eyes and see.

Susie X

PS: You can listen to the opening track, Dream On, right now. Yours to download immediately on pre-order of the album.

Lover Or The Loved

Well, they say good things come to those who wait and haven’t you been waiting a while! But we have news for you! Lots of news! Read on, read on…

THE BLACKEYED SUSANS LAUNCH NEW SINGLE 'LOVER OR THE LOVED' AT ANNUAL MELBOURNE CHRISTMAS SHOWS

'LOVER OR THE LOVED' OUT FRIDAY 2 DECEMBER

The Blackeyed Susans announce the release of their new single 'Lover or the Loved' on Friday 2 December. The new single will be official launched at their annual Christmas shows on Friday 16 December at the Caravan Music Club, Oakleigh (joined by The Thin White Ukes) and Saturday 17 December at Spotted Mallard, Brunswick (with Special Guest Angie Hart). They also play a family friendly matinee show on Sunday 18 December at Spotted Mallard, (again joined by The Thin White Ukes).

'Lover or the Loved' is the first release from The Blackeyed Susans long awaited new album 'Close Your Eyes and See', out in 2017. Against a backdrop of pulsating rhythms and curling guitar lines, the song explores the dynamics of love. It's classic Susans, with Rob Snarski crooning his way through a Phil Kakulas lyric that asks more questions than it answers:

Are you the lover or the loved?
Are you the one below or the one above?
Are you the one who loves too much or not enough?
Are you the lover or the loved?

We all want to be loved, right? Well, The Susans aren't so sure. Engulfed by a starless sky and imbued with an existential ache, Lover or the Loved builds towards a somewhat surprising and compelling conclusion. We can't wait for the album.

Amidst the tinsel and the Christmas lights, The Susans will play sneak previews from the forthcoming album, as well as the best of their back catalogue and some choice Christmas classics too. Come and celebrate the birth of little baby Jesus in style with The Blackeyed Susans this December!
